Dear Friends in Christ!
What a great day to be alive and to be in relationship with our Father God, serving Jesus all the while! I am very thankful to God for the many people that He has placed in my life for this time and season. I have met and am meeting some great people from all over this region! Some of which, I am able to keep in touch with on regular bases.
At the hospital, I had 30 patients, and in the course of a week, I find myself getting close to about 3 of them and keeping in touch with them once they are discharged. At this point, I have had contact with several people that have since been discharged; visiting them in their homes, the coffee shop or their place of business. When a patient has his/her birthday, the kitchen sends a cake for them and sometimes I get to sing ‘happy birthday’ to them! What an opportunity to bless the people. I have had and do have countless opportunities to pray, both for the patients and their family members as well. It really is a joy in serving these patients and often times, family members also! For I have had many divine appointments, everyday! I have so many opportunities to witness, share and encourage people in the journey with Christ! I met Brother Francisco, from Brownwood: it was great getting acquainted with this family. They also owned some restaurants in that area. I have yet to visit them. In serving these patients, I am finding out that it’s the little things that you do for them have the biggest impact! I primarily work the entire 2nd floor, and usually I can handle, but then there are times that it can be a bit overwhelming! I have had as many as 35 patients between east and west of the 2nd floor. Also the number of patients fluctuates so much throughout the day! I have had to opportunity to encourage both patients and family/friends in so many ways throughout the week; from praying for them, singing a hymn or two, an encouraging word and sometimes by a particular food item. Because we are dealing with peoples’ diets, it’s so easy to make a mistake; we really have to careful, alert and very focus with each one! I got evaluated on my job performance, and out of 23 possible points, I got 21 of them! And out of 100%, I got 91%! Praise Jesus!
To say the least, God has brought all kinds of people my way!! Lots of hurting and needy people! And of course, lots of opportunities to serve. I thank God for the favor and grace that he has given to me at work! (‘…Both with God and man!’) There is a guy from work, who is in a different department than me; we have become friends just in passing! One day he asked if I could give him a ride home. I thought that I would be just dropping him off at his apartment, but that was not the case. His wife met us on the side-walk and they invited me in, and there were several people already there! These were both relatives and friends. Since I serve people all day, they wanted to serve me/feed me! WOW! God is faithful. Prem is his name and he has been in this country for 5 months; they are from Nepal and he speaks very good English. What a blessing indeed! There are quite a number of people from Nepal that work here at the hospital. I had an awesome visit with him and his family, and he was the only one that spoke very good English. In hearing his story of how and why he and many others from Nepal have ended up here was amazing! For them, this was their ‘new beginning’ in life – to start over! (We are truly blessed here in the USA!)
Despite the major adjustments and changes that are still taking place, the goodness of God is ever present from day to day! During the course of the summer, I did have a few visitors from Ohio, which great! Even to bringing treats from Holmes County! During the summer months, I got re-connected with people that I have heard from in many years; both here in the USA and Europe as well. I was so encouraged by so many people, in so many ways! God is faithful to send just what I need in ways that I didn’t even think about! I also moved into a less expensive place – a duplex! What a blessing!
This is a much smaller place but lay out is really nice. However, it still needs some minor repairs here and there; especially in the area of plumbing. And YES, I do need to down-size and get rid of stuff!! Since the beginning of this year have been watching and listening to the International House of Prayer – 24/7 Prayer Room, Kansas City; (IHOP.ORG) they are a blessing! I attended a men’s retreat for 3 days! What an awesome time in the Lord! I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the fellowship of the brethren! Hearing and receiving the word of God non-stop, which was awesome! I have attended many retreats and have hosted several as well through the years, but this was truly the best ever!! The church that I attend is looking to start a school in September, called School of Cultural Transformation. I will be attending, the Lord willing. While visiting with some brothers in the D/FW area, we went out to eat in a small town in central Texas that is known for its chicken! Within minutes of our arrival, (while still outside, waiting to be seated), I heard someone called my name, “Leonard Evans”! Well, it was Troy McAdoo, whom I met in 1998-2000, in San Marcos, Texas. We were involved in a bible study on the university camps – SWT. (Now called Texas State University) and it has probably been at least 10 years since I’ve seen him! WOW! What a blessing it was to seen him and to meet his family! This season has been quite the journey, filled with so many bends, curves, dips, hills, mountains and deserts! Through it all, regardless of how the day had gone, I can truly say that I have seen the hand of God at work on my behalf! There have been a lot of different songs that have carried me through and the help of the brethren as well! And of course, there is always an on-going work in making and maintaining relationships. Just last month, I took the opportunity to be re-stored in a friendship with a brother; for we have not communicated since end of March, of which I am now mentoring him! How awesome is that? By-the-way, we had had some great hang-times, sharing the things that God is doing in our hearts. I have also been able to use my Spanish at work a lot lately! Each day I realize more and more just how much God loves us! “I am still standing!”
Good ole Leonardo Evans! I can’t tell you how much of a blessing Leonard has been in my life and the men I walk with. Leonard and my father went to Christ for Nations together back in the early 1900s...I mean early 1970s, so I have known Leonard ever since I was a little kid and he would come and visit the family when he was in town. However, Leonard and I got reconnected about a year and a half ago when Leonard was in the process of moving out to Abilene. I can’t tell you how much of an act of God that was in my life. I had very recently just given my life to Christ and I was in desperate need of guidance and discipleship ;( Insert Leonard) Looking back I can see how important that time was in my life, especially with all of the bondages that were so prevalent in my life. Leonard and I started off talking a couple of times a month and he would even come visit my friends and I every month or so if he was able. He always made it a point to cook for us…and I mean cook! It would take me and my friends a good two to three weeks to finish off all the food Leonard made for us. However, the food wasn’t what made our time so special; the prayer and teaching of the Word was. I honestly had no idea how to really prayer and get into the Word until Leonard came along. He taught me and the guys I walk with how to pray with fervor and confidence; how to open up our Bibles and seek God’s truth with diligence instead of just reading when we felt it was convenient for us. We were so weak in these areas, but that is no longer the case. Over the past year God has completely transformed my life and the life of my roommate Adam. We now hold a weekly Bible study, which is attended by a few close friends and some people we work with. Leonard makes a few special appearances when he’s in town, and that always seems to encourage everyone at the Bible study. If you knew me and how timid I was about praying a year ago, you would definitely see this as an act of God in a mighty way. Praise Jesus! I also have since joined a recovery/discipleship program to overcome bondages in my life that have plagued me far too long. Leonard has been there every step of the way, praying for me in the Holy Ghost and slapping some sense into me when I need it. On top of all of this, I’m in the process of entering Christ for the Nations College in Dallas, Texas next year. It just amazes me how faithful our Lord is, and how mighty He is in providing for us exactly what we need to fulfill His purpose. How faithful is our God! I thank God every day for sending Leonard into my life and helping me grown in the knowledge and truth of our King. Leonard is truly what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and to live a life completely dedicated to serving others. He has blessed so many people with his servant’s heart and joyful obedience to the calling placed on his life. Nathan Bledsoe – Bedford, Texas
